In this course Plexi Cosplay will guide students on how to use EVA foam and Plastazote to create a Minecraft torch shape. Then, students will use soldering stations to learn the basics of LEDs and soldering to create a core of LED strip lights that fit into the foam torch. The class will install a basic on/off switch and battery pack that gets hidden in the base of the torch. This will be an unpainted but fully assembled torch to take home and decorate.
In this lecture you'll learn:
- How to create a basic LED light strip for props, including how to power it on and off
- How to use materials like EVA foam and Plastazote for prop making
- How to solder
Prerequisite Skills:
- Some familiarity with basic prop making, including using EVA foam and other materials to engineer props
About the Instructor:
PlexiCosplay is an award-winning cosplayer from Maryland who specializes in engineering and high-end costume design. She has judged large cosplay circuits like C2E2 but spends much of her time collaborating with gaming companies to bring characters to life. She is also the manager of one of Maryland's largest makerspaces and teaches classes on digital design and fabrication outside of cosplay.

- To participate in this class you must be at least 16 years of age
