In this advanced, machine-based workshop, you’ll learn how to create a range of polished, durable seam finishes using a standard home sewing machine without needing an overlock machine or serger. We’ll break down when and why to use different finishes depending on fabric type, costume structure, and wear demands, then walk through each technique step-by-step. Students will practice multiple seam finishes and leave with the confidence to choose the right one for any cosplay project.

In This Class You'll Learn:

  • How to identify which seam finishes work best for different cosplay materials (wovens, slippery fabrics, heavier weights, and layered builds)
  • How to sew multiple professional seam finishes using only a home sewing machine
  • How to reduce bulk and improve durability in high-stress costume areas
  • How to create clean, polished interiors that hold up to repeated wear and movement
  • How to make informed construction choices that elevate the overall quality of a finished costume

Prerequisite Skills:

This is an intermediate level course, meaning students should have:

  • Familiarity with machine sewing
  • Basic sewing skills/completion of at least one finished garment
