Attendees in this course will learn about the history and practice of shibori, a traditional Japanese tie-dye technique. Students will practice multiple styles of dye application to create various patterns, including Japanese ne-maki techniques and resist applications. The class will conclude with each student using the design of their choice to create a take-home shibori dyed scarf.

In This Class You'll Learn:

• The history of shibori dye techniques in ancient and modern Japan
• The history of indigo dye and why it's used in shibori
• How to twist, wring, shape, and modify fabric to achieve different dye patterns
• Proper precautions and safety measures when working with dye

• None - Beginner Friendly

About the Instructor:

Madison May, the head pattern maker at CUT/SEW, founded the company in 2016. With almost fifteen years of experience in the costume and fashion industry, Madison has provided patterns to both broadway & off-broadway productions, major US theme parks, international cruise lines, and television. Cosplay has been a hobby of hers since 2005 and she also is active in the cosplay photography community under the moniker of Final-Egirl.

• To participate in this workshop, a liability waiver must be completed for all participants
• Anyone under 16 years of age MUST be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian
• Space is limited and all tickets are first come first serve
